Valentine's Day: Mitt or Mitt Out!

Decisions Decisions!

When taking on a project one should really do their homework! I found this out when I was making my Valentine Apothecary Jars! Although the finished product came out wonderfully, I have to say I should've researched a bit more about hot glue guns and their affect on plastic, especially thin plastic, LOL!

I decided to omit the hot glue gun from the directions, and instead use E-6000 for the coasters. The original instructions used hot glue, not a good idea for one someone as clumsy as me, and two, someone who burns themselves regularly!

Mitt or Mitt Out

Valentine Apothecary Jar

I do hope you like my attempt at home decor to commemorate Valentine's Day. It's something I've never done before but felt compelled to do this year... I laugh as I type this because it was truly a labor of love for a day all about love... LOVE it! The picture on the right shows my desire to bring a little something extra to the design, which I quickly removed. It was just a little too over the top for me and I decided to nix the idea. By all means, if you'd like to add this, please do. In fact, my husband really wished I had.

Comparison Shot, With or Without Embellishment

I leave you with a comparison picture of the two apothecary jars, mitt and mitt-out. With the heart or without the heart, you decide! Every time I look at them I sigh just a little wishing I had had the courage to leave them on. I do believe it would have had a bit more personality to it... next time, there's always a next time. See you soon!

Directions for Valentine's Day Apothecary Jars

Supplies

Dollar Tree Items:

Two Hurricane Vases

Two Candy Dishes

One Bunch of Pink Hearts & Flowers

Cork Coasters - found in the household items hanging on the wall.

REGULAR STORE ITEMS: (I got mine at Walmart)

Small Tube Acrylic Paint - your choice of colors

Extra Fine Glitter: Pink

E-6000 clear glue extraordinaire!

Matte Mod Podge

OPTIONAL

Half Pearl Ribbon from Hobby Lobby

Directions:

Simply paint the inside of the candy jars, both top and bottom - set aside to dry.

Once they're dry:

Paint Matte Mod Podge along the bottom outer rim of the candy jar lid and along the top rim of the bottom of the candy jar. Remember this is on the outside of the jar.

NOTE: I went quite high with mine, in fact the lid was practically all the way up to the handle. Go as far as you like!

Quickly spoon glitter on top of the wet mod podge and set aside to dry.

OPTIONAL:

At this point you can measure the half-pearl ribbon to the bottom of the vase and glue it on.

Once the mod podge/glitter dries

Use the E-6000 to glue the coaster to the inside of the painted candy jar lid - making sure to center it well.

Glue the bottom of the painted candy jar to bottom of the Hurricane Vase.

ONCE THE GLUE DRIES II

Separate the rose/heart bunch: 2 roses and 2 hearts each - insert them into the vases...

DONE! FIN'E!!
